Local residents worked along side Forbes State Forest personnel and PA CleanWays members from the Fayette County Chapter and the organization's state personnel to tackle more than a ton of trash and 54 tires along Wymps Gap Road in Wharton Township, Fayette County, on October 26, 2002.
On a very foggy morning, the volunteers met at the Tebolt Trail parking area and then proceeded to remove 1.51 tons of trash from a quarter-mile stretch of Wymps Gap Road and the area surrounding the Tebolt Trail parking area.
The trash included an appliance, construction debris, and household trash. It was degrading the Quebec Run Wild Area, a popular spot for hunters. The tires had served as a breeding ground for disease-carrying mosquitoes.
The volunteers donated 15 hours of their time to the effort. The trash was taken to CBF Landfill Inc. by Superior Waste Hauling for proper disposal.
To ensure proper disposal of waste, DCNR encourages Fayette County residents to contact Warren Hughes, county recycling coordinator, at 724-430-4884 or by
e-mail.
