To spark interest in the Forest Lands Beautification Program in Potter County, the McKean County Chapter of PA CleanWays rid the South Woods Road of pollution on March 23, 2002.
"We are hoping Potter County citizens will want to become an active part of our cleanup efforts," stated Heather McKean, cleanup organizer and executive director of the PA CleanWays Chapter.
Six volunteers made quick work of shingles, a sink, and other discarded items. The trash was loaded onto a pickup truck and taken to the Potter County Solid Waste Authority's transfer station, where tipping fees were generously waived by Manager Mike Salvage.
Ms. McKean said the environment was improved with the removal of the unsightly trash from Homer Township, and the health of South Woods Creek, located only 50 feet from the dump site, was protected as well.
The cleanup, which netted 820 pounds of trash, took the volunteers only one hour to complete.
