Three Square Hollow Volunteers
Three Square Hollow Road
Tuscarora State Forest

A scenic overlook along Three Square Hollow in Tuscarora State Forest provides a wonderful view once again thanks to the work of volunteers and cadets from the Cornell-Abraxas Leadership Development Program.

Happy WorkersThe group of 22 donated 132 hours to pull 3.3 tons of trash, a truckload of recyclable scrap metal, and 157 tires from the vantage point. It is located in Hopewell and Upper Mifflin townships, Cumberland County. Following the volunteer effort, Gary Fronk Excavating removed an additional 2.6 tons of trash and 46 tires from an extremely steep portion of the dumpsite.

Cleanup TeamJohnnie's Restaurant of Newburg provided lunch for the volunteers. Tires were taken to Mahantango Tire Recycling of Liverpool, and Waste Systems International of Newburg provided containers and hauling services to the Cumberland County landfill at a special price for the program.

Local cabin owners have volunteered to monitor the site for any future dumping.

DCNR encourages Cumberland County residents with disposal and recycling questions to contact Tom Imphong, solid waste authority director, at 717-240-6489 or by e-mail.

Hand to HandAfter the cleanup, District Forester Jim Foose exclaimed, "Wow, the difference is incredible! Everything looks great!"

Tuscarora State Forest is comprised of 91,165 acres, and is located in Cumberland, Franklin, Huntingdon, Juniata, Mifflin, and Perry counties. It has four state parks and offers outdoor activities including picnicking, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, and hunting.
