Rothrock State Forest

PA CleanWays of Huntingdon County organized a cleanup on November 12, 2003 to remove trash from an inactive dumpsite along PA Furnace Road in Rothrock State Forest, located in West Township, Huntingdon County. Articles illegally dumped there included construction debris, vehicle parts, appliances, and daily trash.

Contractor Pulling Out Trash

A total of 13 tires and 2.02 tons of trash was removed from PA Furnace Road by the contractor, Gary Fronk Excavating of Thompsontown, who provided labor and heavy equipment for the job. Hauling and disposal were provided by Park's Garbage Service.

Crane TruckRothrock State Forest has four state parks among its acreage. Among them is Trough Creek State Park, a 541-acre park was carved from the former Paradise Iron Furnace Company tract located in the Rothrock State Forest. The Civilian Conservation Corps was responsible for its construction. Featured attractions include a large balanced rock, an ice mine, and remnants of the Paradise Iron Furnace. There is a small tent camping area within the park and several hiking trails.
