Seven sturdy
volunteers donated 35 hours of
their
time to a multi-site cleanup project in Tuscarora State Park
on May 3, 2003. PA CleanWays and park personnel organized
the cleanup and worked with volunteers to complete all of
the scheduled sites in one day. The six dumpsites, scattered
throughout the park, consisted mostly of old bottles, cans
and other household trash. A group of local cub scouts also
worked to clean up the park under the supervision of park
personnel.
Through
the combined efforts of local volunteers and Cub Scout Pack
776, 51 tires and 600 lbs of metal have been recycled. Waste
Management hauled away one ton of household trash for proper
disposal at the Pine Grove Landfill.
The Bethlehem
Office of DEP, Ryan and Rush Township Supervisors and The
Schuylkill County Recycling Coordinator provided knowledge
and assistance for the project.

Tuscarora
State Park is one of the great natural resources in the Locust
Valley. Locust Valley is an oasis of forests, meadows and
wetlands that supports a complex food web of plants, animals
and insects. Locust Creek flows through the park into Tuscarora
Lake, eventually finding its way to the Schuylkill River.
DCNR encourages
Schuylkill County residents with questions about proper disposal
and recycling to contact the county recycling coordinator
at (570) 628-1220.
Covering
1,618 acres in a deeply wooded valley, Tuscarora
State Park is at the southern end of Pennsylvania's Anthracite
Coal Region. Nestled against Locust Mountain, visitors will
find many year-round recreational opportunities like boating
and fishing, and opportunities to see wildlife. The scenic
picnic area plays host to many day trips and family reunions
and the lake is a popular fishing spot.
