Fallen Building

Vroman Road and Peters Tract
Susquehannock State Forest

The remains of vehicles, bedsprings, construction debris and appliances pockmarked parcels of land in Potter County that had been recently acquired by Susquehannock State Forest. The areas had been used to retire old vehicles and stockpile lumber and building materials, which eventually became unusable over the years.

The unsightly dumpsites, which were cleaned in early June, 2003, were in the midst of a beautiful, heavily forested area.

Heavy Equipment Cleaning

The contractor, Let George Do It of Cross Fork, PA, used heavy equipment to separate and compact waste consisting of numerous vehicles, construction materials and trash. Over 23 tons of scrap metal were recycled by Staiman Recycling Corp. of Williamsport. Another 25 tons of trash and 130 tires went to Wayne Township Landfill via the Potter County Solid Waste Authority Transfer Station in Gold, PA.

Graded, Seeded, and Mulched Area

After the cleanup, the Vroman Road site was graded, seeded and mulched.

DCNR encourages Potter County residents with questions about recycling and proper disposal to contact their county Recycling Coordinator at (814) 848-9610.

A total of 180 miles of state forest roads and 89 miles of foot trails are maintained in the Susquehannock State Forest. Some of the finest views in Pennsylvania can be seen from the vistas and from Route 44, which bisects the forest.
