A collapsed barn
and an historic farmhouse had been a safety concern to Delaware
Canal State Park personnel since acquiring the site in 2003.
PA CleanWays, Inc., partnered with the park to organize the
cleanup operations of the area, located in Upper Black Eddy,
Tinicum Township, Bucks County.

In mid-April,
the contractor, Let George Do It, removed the old collapsed
barn - wood, roof, and debris - leaving the original stone foundation
intact. Years of accumulated waste and vandalism were cleared
from the three floors and basement of the large farmhouse, which
will be used as a residence for DCNR personnel. Assorted waste
was removed from the surrounding grounds and the area was graded.

Over 44 tons of
trash were taken to Chrin Brothers Sanitary Landfill in Easton.

DCNR encourages
Bucks County residents with questions about recycling and proper
disposal to contact their Recycling Coordinator, Lale Byers,
at 215-345-3414.

A
walk along the 60-mile towpath in Delaware
Canal State Park is a stroll into American History. The
Delaware Canal is the only remaining continuously intact canal
of the great towpath canal building era of the early and mid-19th
century. Mule drawn canal boat rides and the Lock Tender's
House Visitor Center are at New Hope.
Paralleling
the Delaware River between Easton and Bristol, this diverse
park contains an historic canal and towpath, many miles of
river shoreline and eleven river islands. From riverside to
farm fields to historic towns, visitors to Delaware Canal
State Park will enjoy the ever-changing scenery along its
corridor.
