Brier Knob
Gallitzin State Forest

Five truckloads of trash, including 150 tires, were removed from the Brier Knob area of Gallitzin State Forest along Crumb Road in November 2000.

The Somerset County Chapter of PA CleanWays organized this cleanup with support from Somerset County, District Forester Robert Schweitzer, and other local Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) staff. Schweitzer noted that he looks forward to cleaning up additional sites in Gallitzin State Forest. Participants are pictured, right.

Team MembersLocal businesses joined the team to make the cleanup a success. KG's Hauling from Windber provided collection and transportation services at a reduced rate. Waste Management's Shade Landfill, located in Cairnbrook, donated disposal space.

Local citizens or groups interested in this area are urged to adopt it to help keep it trash free. Any interested groups are encouraged to contact either Gallitzin State Forest at (814) 472-1862, or the Somerset County Chapter of PA CleanWays at (814) 445-1544.
