Forbes State Forest

Seven volunteers, donating nearly 35 hours of their time, worked to remove nearly nine tons of illegally dumped materials from along the edges of Pine Knob Road in South Union Township, Fayette County, on November 17, 2001.

Pine Knob VolunteersIn addition to shingles that were taken for proper disposal by DCNR personnel, the volunteers removed more than 25 tires, automobile parts, furniture, construction debris and other household waste.

Cleanup Team "We are extremely grateful to the volunteers who gave of their time and energy to this cleanup," said cleanup coordinator Randy Bookshar, executive director of the Fayette County Chapter of PA CleanWays.

Hard Working Volunteers Forbes State Forest contains over 20 separate tracts of state land in Fayette, Somerset, and Westmoreland Counties with more than 50,000 acres. Most of the acreage is along the Laurel Ridge, and the area attracts people from the greater Pittsburgh area. It is heavily used for all types of outdoor recreation. To play host to millions of visitors, six state parks and three state forest picnic areas have been developed.
