Volunteer Now!

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has developed the Forest Lands Beautification Program to clean up our forests. Volunteers are the key to success.

"Why should I volunteer?" Cleaning up our forests is a big job. There are more than 200 reported dump sites in state forest and park lands. PA CleanWays, the organization charged with coordinating the effort, creates a cleanup team for each site -- a team comprised of community partners and individual volunteers. That's where you come in.

"How can I facilitate a cleanup?" Volunteers can make a cleanup happen. Your concern about a particular site, together with the interest of other volunteers, can prioritize that site for cleanup.

"What can I do?" You can volunteer a few hours of your time to remove trash from a dump site. If you're interested, check the cleanups schedule and the dump sites list to see if a cleanup is planned in your area.

The Forest Lands Beautification Act through DCNR and Pennsylvania CleanWays provides the volunteers with the where withall to conduct cleanups, and what a sense of satisfaction we derive from it." Sylvia Hardman, Michaux and Tuscarora State Forests Volunteer

You probably know other people who may be interested. You can help assemble the team, or sign up your local organization.

"Is there an age limit?" Youth 12 and over are welcome at most illegal dump site cleanups; however, parental consent forms are required to be completed and signed prior to the cleanup and presented to the cleanup coordinator. Read about the youth policy and print out the Parental Consent Form.

"How do I sign up?" It's simple. Call 1-877-7PA-FOREST today, and get details on the future cleanups and other volunteer activities. Or email us. We'll get you started today.

"What happens after the cleanup?" You can help monitor a site to keep it clean. Stewardship of the site does not end with the cleanup. Monitors are needed to watch a site for any future illegal dumping activity. You can learn how to report illegal dumps and dumping activity.

"How do I report an illegal dump site?" If you know of an illegal dumpsite on state park or forest land that you would like to see cleaned, please fill out the online illegal dump survey form.
